Axolotls can breed in any season. But they mostly breed in early Spring. If the female is fully grown it can lay up to 1000 eggs. If you want to breed them, place a soft big rock (for the male) and some plants in the tank and try to keep the tank in a dark place.
When the eggs hatch which would probably be in 2-3 weeks, they'll accept small foods like micro worms. But, they don't eat dead food or pellets until their back legs come in or they are big enough to eat them. Baby axolotls should not be cramped in one small container or tank together. Put them in a tank where they have enough space to move in, other wise they might bight each other. If any baby axolotl dies you should take it out straight away and maybe clean your tank. Just so no diseases or illness spreads. If you don't have any plants, the axolotl will probably lay it on any decoration, or cave. You should also remove the axolotls, or eggs from the tank. Its best to keep the axolotls away from each other, so they don't breed early. Also, if they breed early, the female will have a shorter life and it will be stress full to it. So, wait until they're 7 inches, or if there tips of there toes are dark. Then they reach sexual maturity. When the female has laid its eggs, take it away from the male for a couple of months (Maybe 2-6 months or if it looks better). The smooth rock is for the male to lay its packet of sperm on it and the plants are fore the female to lay its eggs on. If you want them to breed, they wont breed when you want them to. They'll breed when they are ready. It also depends on, what quality food you give them, or how well there tank is looked after. Also, lighter colored axolotls reach sexual maturity, their tips of their toes will turn dark brown or black.
Darker colored axolotls tip toes will turn lighter than the body, when they reach maturity.
