Axolotl Care
If your thinking about getting an Axolotl or if your just interested in them, this page will teach you about axolotl requirements & water conditions (Axolotl Care).
Other fish in the same tank
Axolotls shouldn't be in the same tank with other fish. Why?
Well, the other fish tend to nibble on the axolotls gills, Because they look like a bunch of worms swaying in the water which may look like live food to other fish. Also, some fish could end up in the axolotls stomach. Which the axolotl could possibly end up chocking on the fish.
Also, if you own allot of baby axolotl, it would be best to put them in a wide space rather than a small squishy container, because, baby axolotls less than 3 inches will ten to nip each other. Wild type axolotls should definitely not be in squished spaces with others, because they are more aggressive.
Axolotl temperature
Axolotls should preferably be kept in temperatures 16ºC & 18ºC ( 60-64ºF). Any higher or lower temperatures could lead to, Sluggish behavior, Stress and increased appetite.
Temperatures higher than 24ºC (75ºF) are very stressful to axolotls. Such temperatures can lead (in a day or two) to disease and/or death.
If your having difficulty maintaining the temperature of your axolotls tank, you could move the tank to a cooler place in the house.
Axolotl Feeding
If you don't know, axolotls are carnivores. Meaning they require a meet-based diet. Their teeth are mainly for gripping, instead of tearing or biting. Axolotls food are always swallowed whole. So anything they'd want to eat has to try and fit into their mouths. If you hand feed your axolotl, it may bite your finger. This feeling is sought of ticklish because axolotls teeth can't pierce through human flesh because they don't have the strength to. If they bite any part of your skin, its best to wait until they let go, because they are sought of fragile. Axolotls have large mouths which means they'll eat anything that will fit in their mouths. So its best to not to have gravel or small stones that can fit in their mouths, because, If they eat the stone there is a high possibility they could choke on it and die. Its also best to feed them every 2-3 days. Axolotls preferred diet is, Salmon pellets, Blood Worms, Earth Worms and Insects.
If you have two or more axolotls in a tank together, make sure to not over feed them and if you don't feed them, they'll start eating each other. If your axolotl is over fed, it can cause stress and an unhealthy axolotl. Make sure to remove un eaten food as soon as possible to!
Axolotl WaterFlow
Water flow usually is caused by a filter or when you use an air pump on an aquarium. Output from the filter causes a significant flow and is probably the most common stress to axolotls. Excessive water flow can, lead to a disease which may kill your axolotl. If the axolotl is stressed it turns its gills forward and its tail would be curved. You can also make sure water flow will not happen, by either installing a small or different filter.
Chlorine
Chlorine is a chemical element and is yellowish/greenish colour. Every time you change your tank water using tap water, always be sure to treat it before putting your axolotl(s) in. If you don't treat your water, your axolotl COULD get a disease or die. So if you are changing your axolotls water, make sure you use something to get rid of all the chemicals in the water. You may also need to wait 24 hours before placing your axolotl(s) to get rid of any chemicals.
Tank
Make sure your tanks floor has no small stones that fit into your axolotls mouth. If this is so, its best to remove it straight away. If your wondering why, the axolotl might accidentally choke on a rock and won't be able to breathe. Or it can swallow a small stone can get stuck in their guts which won't be pretty.
I also dislike putting big rocks as the floor because, sometime I get worries the
axolotl(s) might get crushed. They are also a pain to clean!
Sand in my opinion, is probably the best.
I love seeing their tiny foot prints on the sand. They also will grip to the sand. You can use no
surface, but, if you want to place live plants in, you'll need something to hold
it down. No surface is hard to grip for them though. Like my axolotl kept on sliding! The tank should preferably be twice the size of an adult axolotl, so
get a tank around 30 or 46 inches in length (The bigger tank
you get the better). Any other tank will probably be suitable until the axolotl
is half the size of the tank. The tank should be 15-18 inches
wide. Making it about, 21-24 gallons. You should also have some plants
for the axolotl and a cave because they prefer to be in dark places. The tank
must be kept clean so, get a filter for the axolotl. It would be best (if it has
a pipe) to aim it at the glass, so when the axolotl pokes its head up, it wont
damage the gills, and keep the filter on low because axolotls dislike fast
moving water. It is also best to change the water weekly, and when you do be
gentle with your axolotl. Also put something into get rid of any chemicals. Its
best to not leave them in a sunny place, because bright lights scares axolotls
and it could also warm the tank up. If you put decorations in the tank, make
sure its not bigger than the axolotl, just in case they might swallow
it. So, make sure the decorations are bigger than their
head(s).

Morphing
Axolotls can morph because of multiple things. If the water condition is really bad they can morph to escape it, but it is unlikely your axolotl will live with all of these processes, so don't try and morph your axolotl. Your axolotl could also be a tiger salamander instead of an axolotl, Or Gentic Mutation
