AXOLOTL HEALTH
Axolotls are rather good pets. But they need to be well looked after. Which means they need to be fed, and the tank needs to be cleaned every one week or two. If you don't look after the animal well, it could get diseases or get very ill. Which could lead to death. So if you don't look after them well, give them to someone who will. Also, if you worry if he lost a leg or limb etc. (S)He will grow them back. Which is why scientists are interested in them. Most common signs of stress is curved tail and gills forward.
Fungal Infections
If your axolotl is looking skinny, won't eat and looks uncomfortable, it probably has a fungal infection which can be common.
Anyway, you should get him a container he can move around in, fill it with water so all his body won't show, put 2 teaspoons of salt in per liter, and place him in there for 10 minutes once or twice per day. Make sure you don't leave him in there for more than 14 minutes or the salt could damage its skin and gills. After 2-3 days you can stop doing this, If he looks better.
Parasites
Parasites can be tricky to get rid of. The axolotl should be taken to a vet to take care of the problem. That's why its best not to get imported stuff as they may have parasites on them like food, or plants and even decorations purchased online could have parasites. If the axolotl is not taken care of, he could get very ill and not eat or might die. So if (S)he should be taken to a vet as soon as possible.
Bacterial Infection Red Leg
Red leg is a type of disease carried by blood cells, so its easy to spread across the axolotl(s) body. It is also contagious to the species. You will tell if he has this disease by red patches on his body. Its best that he gets medical attention and that you clean his tank (Sterilizes it and cycle it). If you take him he should be treated and maybe given antibiotics. The scientific name for red leg is Aeromonas hydrophila.
